The buffalo worm is the larva of the buffalo beetle.
Buffalo worms are very nutritious because of their high protein content, and they also have a low fat content.
They have a nut flavor and birds love them. It is therefore excellent food for all insectivorous birds, small reptiles, fish, salamanders and frogs.
Buffalo worms are easily digestible (the chitin skin is less tough than mealworms). A tasty food for all kinds of bird species. Very suitable food during the breeding period for tits, bullfinches, tomboys, etc ...
Ideally keep your buffalo serving in a spacious smooth crate. Buffalo's themselves give off a lot of heat and should therefore be kept in the largest possible PVC crate.
The smooth wall ensures that the buffalo cannot crawl out. Buffalo's need good ventilation so that they can get rid of their own produced heat.
Place the crates in a cool and dry place, the ideal temperature to keep buffalo is between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. The warmer the buffalos are, the more active they become.
As a food you can offer buffalo bran or wholemeal bread. You can also give some apple or carrot. You can prevent mold by not giving too much moisture-rich food. Offer new food again when the previous one is completely used up.
You can increase the nutritional value of buffalo by adding vitamins and calcium. You can also enrich it by sprinkling insect food (mealworms or cricket food) over it.
Buffalo's themselves give off a lot of heat, which allows the buffalos to pupate relatively quickly in a warm environment. These dolls are very protein-rich food and therefore very suitable for our birds.
Make sure your birds have variety in food animals. This gives you a better general composition of nutrients. This prevents one-sided feeding and certainly benefits the general condition of your birds.
